Hjálmar is Iceland’s most popular reggae band. Iceland and reggae, an unusual combination at first sight. Maybe it was the long Icelandic summer days that in 2004 inspired a group of friends to combine their passion for the sounds of Jamaica with the sounds of their homeland to create a unique blend of warm, old school reggae, sung entirely in Icelandic. Hugely respected, admired and loved in Iceland, Hjálmar is one of Iceland’s best kept secrets, gaining more and more recognition outside Scandinavia as well.
This documentary is about their trip to Jamaica to record their 4th album, IV, in Tuff Gong and Harry J. studio in Kingston. The film provides insight into the band’s studio work as well as about Jamaica and it’s people.
