Since the release of their well-received debut album ‘Canto Para Gritar’ two years ago, TenTemPiés has been on the road almost non-stop. 2012 was a successful year for the band with performances at large festivals like Dunya, Mundial and Oerol and tours through Germany, France and Spain.

In March TenTemPiés will cross the ocean for their third tour abroad, this time in Chili, back to their musical roots in the motherland of frontman Maurino Alarcón. This year it is also exactly 40 years since the coup against Salvador Allende, causing the parents of Maurino to flee the country and move to The Netherlands. For the band, known for their lyrics inspired by political issues and social injustice, this has been an important historical event for the shaping of their identity.

Upon return in Amsterdam, TenTemPiés will present their new EP ‘A Casa Tierra’ on April 18th in music venue Bitterzoet. The EP was recorded and mixed by Dougal Hallowes and Maurino Alarcón, for the mastering the band turned to Andrew Baldwin (The Who, The Orb, Hidden Orchestra) at the famous Metropolis Studios in London. With the 6-track EP, including a remix of the award-winning Dutch producer Perquisite, TenTemPiés is now fully geared up to spread their music and message even further, in The Netherlands, Europe and beyond.

Since the release of “Transitions” in 2007, and follow-up EP “Progressions” (2008), Arts The Beatdoctor hasn’t released any solo efforts. After years of working on remixes (a.o. Leadsmen, Pete Philly & Perquisite, Giovanca), collaborating with other artists (The Q4, Joe Kickass) and writing screenmusic, his dearmost followers got curious when he shared an old, unreleased track on Soundcloud:

Reactions were overwhelming. People started asking me if there was more to come. Seemingly, they really dug this old work which I found hiding somewhere deep in my computer … Eventually, I went through all the stuff I had laying around, some nearly finished tracks, others abandoned for various reasons, untouched for years. These tracks contain really good ideas that I just didn’t manage to finish before. Somehow they must have disappeared to the background. I’m very happy about finally making these tracks available, and I’m looking forward to see how the world reacts to them.

After releasing this retrospective collection, Arts will continue work on a new solo release and his ever evolving live performance.

Known for their reputation as a ‘true festival band’ TenTemPiés chose Oerol Festival as the scenario for the new video. Film makers Ruben Wiegerinck and Derek van Egmond, also responsible for the video of the single ‘Leon’, shot the video last June on a summer’s day at Terschelling, The Netherlands.

Together with the single and video we also present the official remix made by our friend and great Dutch producerPerquisite. After working together with Maurino on his single ‘Me Despido‘ (Unexpected Records, 2011), Perquisite took ‘Que Sera’ and composed his own unique interpretation, blending traditional South-American/Andean sounds with his own distinctive musical style. The video of ‘Me Despido’ was shot in one take in the desert of Tabernas, Spain. It was filmed and edited by Derek van Egmond and Ruben Wiegerinck, who were also responsible for the video for TenTemPiés’ first single ‘Leon’.

These two very different kingdoms have now teamed up to create a new genre of reggae, which they have dubbed ‘doom reggae’. They have recorded an album together which will be presented at Iceland Airwaves, which will take place from October 31 until November 4. Heading south on October 18th, TenTemPiés will kick off their ‘Al Sur Tur’ with a show in Villeneuve d’Ascq together with French reggae rock band La Familya. From there they continue on to Spain for shows in Gandía (Mala Vida) and at the recently opened Belushi’s Barcelona, also one of the sponsors this tour. View the tour dates below.
